A window regulator is a mechanism that raises and lowers a window. Window regulators can be manual or electric, but the one pictured in this animation is electric. They are also constructed in different manners, but the one shown is made with pulleys and a cable.

The window regulator, driven by the window motor, uses a cable system to raise and lower the window. The motor turns a pulley that moves the cable, which is attached to the window clips. Common issues include broken clips, pulleys, or cables, causing the window to jam or fall. Overheating motors can also lead to intermittent functionality. Typically, both the motor and regulator are replaced as a complete assembly to ensure reliable operation and avoid frequent repairs.
